Senior Design Projects

Current Projects

Senior Design requires two semesters; the First Semester (BMEN 453) emphasizes Teams, project management, idealizing & conceptualizing a design, product requirements to engineering specifications, technical communications, designing the product, researching intellectual property (patent search), cost estimation (materials and vendors), SBIR proposals, introduction to program management scope, project integration and conducting design reviews. Ideally, parts are to be ordered between semesters.

During the Second Semester (BMEN 454), the emphasis will be on engineering program management (Cost, Schedule, human resources and quality in program management), fabrication and product verification (testing), compliance with codes, standards, and regulation (FDA), technical communications, and culmination in a product prototype. The objective of these courses are for students to understand and manage the design process used by medical industries in development of Clinical or Biomedical devices or systems, to work well on large biomedical projects requiring a TEAM environment, and to effectively communicate technical matters (written and oral presentations).
