The objective of this project is to aid physicians in disease diagnosis by developing software in LabVIEW® that performs image acquisition and image processing in conjunction with an existing portable endoscopy hardware system. There is a need for disease diagnosis tools in non-clinical environments such as battlefields hospitals, rural communities, or in outer space. To assist the physician most effectively in disease diagnosis, the software application will focus on lesion dimensions, hue, saturation, depth, and light intensity. To date, the design team has repaired and modified the received hardware system and image acquisition software. The team has also made progress in image enhancement, edge detection, and color plane separation. The team will continue developing image processing algorithms to incorporate into the system with the accepted suggestions offered by the design review panel.
The final product will contain image acquisition and image processing programs integrated into a portable system capable of automatically detecting the size and orientation of lesions encountered in endoscopic procedures.
