With our undergraduate curriculum, our goal is to prepare undergraduate biomedical engineering students to:
We meet these goals through a modern and comprehensive curriculum taught by dedicated, expert faculty. In addition, we actively support professional development among students through individual study, research opportunities, cooperative education, internships and student society activities. Design is an important part of the engineering profession. The biomedical engineering curriculum provides for the development of design skills throughout, culminating in the two-semester senior design course that requires application of a wide range of engineering technology to a focused design project. The introductory freshman courses introduce the concepts of a structured approach to design. Subsequent courses in biomedical engineering and in supporting disciplines include examples of the application of the principles to design questions and specific design exercises.
Many biomedical engineering students seek to enter medical school with a degree in bioengineering, giving them the advantage of having a marketable engineering degree as well as academic training appropriate for modern medicine. To meet the requirements for admission to most medical schools, students must select some courses required for medical school admission from electives in the biomedical engineering curriculum. It is also necessary to take additional course work above the requirements for the biomedical engineering program. Below is a list of typical medical school entrance requirements and any additions or substitutions needed for the biomedical engineering curriculum. The undergraduate program is accredited by ABET.

Six hours are required from the core curriculum international and cultural diversity category. These six hours are the only course requirements that can also satisfy other core curriculum category requirements such as social and behavioral sciences, U.S. and political science, or visual & performing arts. Catalogs 125 and 126 contain a list of courses that satisfy these requirements. For your convenience, please click below for a list of courses which satisfy the international and cultural diversity plus other designated core curriculum requirement.
