The Tissue Microscopy Laboratory is a multidisciplinary research group headed by Dr. Alvin T. Yeh in the Department of Biomedical Engineering. Our research group focuses on the development of Nonlinear Optical Microscopy (NLOM; a.k.a. two-photon and multiphoton microscopy) for the microscopic characterization of living tissues. Our work aims to use NLOM to bridge understanding of molecular cell biology and chemistry with tissue/organ properties and function. Our research efforts are concentrated in three main areas—instrumentation development for nonlinear optical microscopy/ spectroscopy, microscopic biomechanics and mechanobiology.
